UX/UI (part-time)

Harvesters work This position will involve the visual design and the ongoing upkeep of all Lufa Farms' software and applications. We are looking for someone with a strong background in user experience (UX) design and/or user interface who is able to enhance our applications and services. We are looking for someone to:

  • Create the most optimal user interface to facilitate its adoption by users
  • Design mockups to demonstrate usability to stakeholders prior to implementation
  • Prepare all visuals for development team to facilitate implementation
  • Contribute to the visual identity of Lufa Farms
  • Keep an up-to-date Lufa Farms’ style guide

Requirements:

  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Experience in the development of responsive designs
  • 2+ years of experience in a similar position (with portfolio of projects)

Web Developer 

Lufa Farms is looking to grow its Software Development department. The Web Developer will be responsible for the development of applications to support our daily operations and our online sales platform. We are looking for someone to:

  • Design, estimate, and code new features
  • Architect new applications, and expand existing ones
  • Investigate and fix production issues
  • Define, document, and enforce regulations, procedures and formal instructions
  • Ensure all code that goes to production is of top quality
  • Ensure existing applications are scaled to meet expected demand
  • Continuously improve the software infrastructure, such as the deployment process

Requirements:

  • Experience in designing and developing high availability web applications or services
  • Experience in software testing, bug tracking and fixing<
  • Experience in requirement writing and drafting
  • 5+ years experience with object-oriented programming in PHP and front-end technologies such as JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
  • Familiar with MVC frameworks such as Yii and Laravel

HR Assistant

The Assistant to HR is responsible for maintaining filing systems, updating job postings, verifying documentation prior to payroll processing and ensuring that employee files are kept up to date. The assistant will also help with screening resumes and preparing offer letters, contacts, and other documentation related to onboarding of new employees. This is a junior role.

Requirements:

Laval Greenhouse Aide

The Laval Greenhouse Aide is responsible for cleaning, stocking and supplying designated facility areas (dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, restroom cleaning, etc.) They will carry out heavy cleaning tasks and perform routine inspection/maintenance activities. 

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies.
  • Familiarity with Material Safety Data Sheets.
  • Integrity.
  • Able to lift 25-30 pounds and to work in tight spaces.
  • Access to a vehicle. 

Schedule:

  • 7:00am to 3:30pm

Harvesters work to ensure that produce is delivered fresh to our clients the following day and also help during plant pulls. Other duties include plant care and greenhouse janitorial tasks. 

Requirements:

  • Independent
  • Comfortable with long periods of physical activity (8+ hours) in humid environment
  • Capable walking/bending and lifting for extended periods
  • Organized

Assets:

  • Experience with greenhouse labour an asset

Schedule:

  • Sunday to Thursday, 3pm to midnight

Warehouse Manager 

The warehouse manager will be responsible for the Lufa Farms warehouse and distribution center. This role will involve building processes and procedures to achieve operational improvements related to reception, inventory, warehousing, portioning, cleaning and pick and pack operations by initiating, coordinating and coaching the team throughout the process. The manager will be in charge of maintaining the condition of the warehouse, planning and implementing new layouts as required and ensuring all equipment is maintained and working properly ensure timely dispatch of the orders. The manager will also be responsible for integrating the use of automated and computerized systems into the current process and will need a deep understanding of how thses systems function.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in warehouse management or supervision
  • Technically driven - someone that has attended a Promat conference and has a software background 
  • Ability to analyze data and predict future needs - someone that dreams of puts per hour
  • Awareness of the latest trends in warehouse and distribution setup including emerging automation technologies and how they function
  • Experience in developing standards, operating procedures and the execution thereof to ensure productivity targets are achieved
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements and experience ensuring standards are met

Assets:

  • Knowledge of automated storage and retrieval systems
  • Work experience with redesigning and automating warehouses
  • Experience with warehouses with multiple temperature zones

Greenhouse Maintenance Technician 

The Greenhouse Maintenance Technician conducts the maintenance operations of our three rooftop greenhouses. It is a hands-on role that requires technical and applied knowledge of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems (with a focus on irrigation systems). The ideal candidate is someone who can not only conduct our scheduled maintenance tasks, but who can also identify and address mechanical failures of production equipment, structural/building deficiencies, and maintenance gaps. 

Requirements:

  • Prior experience as a mechanic maintaining and repairing equipment/facilities 
  • Must have experience and be able to perform PVC and plumbing repairs, basic electrical repairs, carpentry, and painting
  • Experience with material handling and construction, advanced knowledge of power tools, operating various measuring, diagnostic and testing instruments
  • Must be available outside normal business hours during emergency calls and be reachable 24/7
  • Adjusts to changing conditions and willing to work off-shift, holidays and weekends as needed
  • Ability to perform under minimal supervision and exercise independent judgement in problem resolution 
  • Must have a driver's license and a vehicle to travel between sites and pick up materials

Assets:

  • 3-5 years of experience performing installations and repairs, including 2 years as a Facility Maintenance Machanic, or the equivalent combination of education and experience at a commercial greenhouse or similar facility 
  • Genuine commitment to the company's vision
  • Proficiency in Google Apps (Google Sheets, Google Docs)
  • Experience in welding and the ability to operate welding tools
  • Familiarity with reading and interpreting blue prints, schematics and one-line drawings 
  • Skyjack Platform Lift license

Warehouse Team Employee 

This general position at Lufa Farms requires a candidate who is effective at three key roles at our warehouse: picking, packing and portioning. Different roles may vary according to the specific needs of our Montreal distribution centre. 

Requirements:

  • Ability to work quickly and precisely without making errors in a constantly changing environment under pressure
  • Ability to work both independently and in teams 
  • Actively concerned and aware about both quality of work and the products being handeled 
  • Ability to lift and handle heavy objects (+/- 20lbs) and put them in inventory, sometimes on high shelves (6' to 8') using a ladder or stepladder if necessary 
  • Ability to respect deadlines 
  • Grear work ethic, flexibility and attention to detail
  • Familiar with the use of electronic devices such as computers, tablets, and associated applications
  • Able to move products using a pallet truck, two wheeled hand truck, cart, etc. 
  • Steel-toed boots 

Assets:

Director of Purchasing 

This role requires someone who is adept at managing a team, strategic negotiations, and managing relationships with existing suppliers. Additionally, the Director of Purchasing will be responsible for the complete vision of the Lufa Farms online marketplace which involves creating and executing a full merchandizing plan based on data, trends and anticipated needs of our Lufavores. This role will be evaluated on Key Performance Indicators - notably availability, margins and average order value. Collaboration with the marketing department, accounting department, distribution department, and with the IT department to improve supply chain tools and operations will also be expected.

 

Requirements:

  • Good negotiation skills and confident in business relationship development 
  • Experience forecasting, purchasing, and managing supplier relationships
  • 5 years experience in a purchasing management or direction role, preferably in the food industry
  • Familiar with retail pricing and specials in the retail food industry
  • Strong day to day team management capabilities and experience and ability to build and performance manage a multi-disciplinary team
  • Organizational skills, punctuality and ability to work both independently and in teams in a fast and automated environment
  • Ability to work quickly and precisely without making errors in a constantly changing environment
  • Focused on quality and high-standards of work and performance, and achievement of KPI goals
  • Great work ethic, flexibility, attention to detail and respect for both the products and stated deadlines
